Ritom power plant

Day’s programme

Ritom SA, a partnership between SBB and AET, is replacing the Ritom power plant, which has been in operation between the Ritom lake and Piotta since 1920, with a new power station.

The visit takes place partly in Piotta (valley) and partly in Piora (Ritom lake dam). In Piotta it will be possible to view the construction work on the new hydroelectric power station and the demodulation reservoir in front of it. After a short transfer by minibus, the underground TBM assembly cavern at the foot of the inclined shaft can then be reached.

The visit is continued by climbing to the level of the construction site at the foot of the Ritom dam by means of the Ritom funicular and a short walk. There it will be possible to view the installation site, and those who want to can take a mountain path to reach the underground valve chamber in a few minutes. At the end of the visit, everyone will take the return route to Piotta together.
